Undertaking case note audits of missed SGA cases helps maternity units
to review their practice and overall service in fetal growth surveillance.

The aim of each case review is to identify, if possible

  • why the SGA was missed
  • if there are any identifiable issues that could be addressed

The overall aim for the audit is to:

  • identify themes/system failures to action
  • inform and focus service provision
  • provide commissioning evidence/support

System failures may include

  • training requirements for clinicians
  • guidelines and protocols
  • scanning resources
  • inform commissioning
