2.4 Standardising fundal height measurements (1/5)

It is essential that all clinicians use the same technique, to decrease
– Intra-observer error (variation by same carer over time) and
– Inter-observer error (variation between different carers).

Technique:

  • Bladder empty (if full, can falsely add 2cms to measurement!)
  • Firm, flat surface
  • Mother semi-recumbent (at 30-45 degrees)
  • Non-elastic tape, with centimetre scale hidden
